Sonepat rail coach unit is a mere repair workshop, says Deepender
CHANDIGARH : Rohtak Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda on Friday slammed the BJP governments at the Centre and in Haryana for scaling down the proposed railway coach manufacturing unit at Sonepat to a mere refurbishing and rehabilitation factory.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on October 9 laid the foundation stone of the factory.
Talking to the media, Deepender said the Congress government in Haryana had decided to allot 370 acres at Lath-Bidal in Sonepat to the ministry of railways for the setting up of railway coach manufacturing unit.
“The Union railways minister had in 2013-14 rail budget announced the setting up of railway coach manufacturing unit. This would have come at a cost of Rs 3,500 crore. But what finally has come Haryana’s way after five years is a refurbishing and rehabilitation factory on about 161 acres, courtesy the BJP regime,’’ the MP said.
Hooda said the refurbishing and rehabilitation factory was like a repair workshop and would not spur economic development in the area.
“A railway coach manufacturing unit in Sonepat would have given economic stimulus to the area as ancillary units would also have come around it. The proposed Lath-Bidal industrial model township would have been the ideal place for this activity.’’ Deepender alleged.
