ROHTAK: Congress MLA Jai Teerth Dahiya said on Thursday that he will once again put the proposal for moving a privilege motion against IPS officer Bharti Arora before the Vidhan Sabha speaker.

The speaker had on Wednesday quashed the Rai MLA’s privilege notice against Arora, who is also the director-cum-principal of prestigious Moti Lal Nehru Sports School at Rai in district, saying she had the right to use her legal option.

The whole controversy had erupted after the IPS officer had sent a legal notice to Dahiya, calling some newspaper reports as defamatory in which he had alleged corruption in the functioning of Rai sports school.

In her legal notice, the IPS officer had warned Dahiya of filing Rs 4-crore defamation suit against him if he did not apologise for “leading a campaign of vilification and slander” against her.

Rather than apologising, the MLA had written to the speaker to initiate privilege motion against Arora, citing her act of sending legal notice to him as a breach of privilege.

“I’m not satisfied with the decision of the speaker. He has himself agreed that I, being an MLA of the state, have the right to raise my voice against irregularities. Why was I threatened through a legal notice not to speak about these irregularties , ?” Dahiya said.

The legislator said he had been raising the matter of irregularities at the Rai sports school for a long time, and has never made a personal attack on the IPS officer.

“I have the audit report of the government in which the finance department has agreed to irregularities in purchase of equipment at the sports school,” he said .
