‘Two-bit politicians, officials taking decisions in Haryana’
ATTACK Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh says 'do kauri ke' leaders and babus are taking decisions on development works, which have proved unfruitful
GURGAON: Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh on Thursday said “do kauri ke” (two-bit) politicians and bureaucrats” in Haryana were taking developmental decisions that had proved unfruitful.
The situation in Haryana had not changed much even though the Bharatiya Janata Party was in power in the state, the BJP parliamentarian from Gurgaon said.
He said he had advocated the setting up of a Gurgaon Development Authority (GDA) a few years ago for faster development of the millennium city, but his suggestion was sabotaged by the then Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda by forming the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon.
The new minister of state for planning (independent charge) was addressing a seminar organised by the Haryana Institute Public Administration here.
MOOTS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY FOR NCR
The minister said a National Capital Region Development Authority (NCRDA) could be planned for comprehensive development of the region.
He said the NCRDA could include Gurgaon and others areas like Faridabad, Mewat, Rewari, Mahendergarh, Rohtak and Jhajjar for overall development of the region.
The Haryana sub-region of NCR comprises Gurgaon, Faridabad, Mewat, Bhiwani, Jhajjar, Karnal, Jind, Mahendergarh, Panipat, Palwal, Rewari, Rohtak and Sonepat.
“How can people sitting in Chandigarh decide what happens in Gurgaon?” he asked while stressing need for a stronger local authority.
His statement comes at a time when the demand for GDA has picked up pace and Haryana PWD and forests minister Rao Narbir Singh has assured its formation within three years.
Inderjit, who was earlier in the Congress, has been a contender for chief ministership.
Political observers read a political motive behind Inderjit’s demand for NCRDA as this will boost his political stature at the state level. The state has 21 districts and 13 of these are included in the NCR.
“If the demand for NCRDA materialises, this will project Rao as a state-level leader. Now when everyone is taking credit for pushing GDA, Rao has thrown up a bigger idea.” said a senior BJP leader who wished anonymity.
Addressing a public rally at Badshahpur on April 10, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced that the state government would try to constitute GDA, by bringing a legislation in the state assembly after addressing legal objections to it.
