Wind derails Lahiri, Scott upstages Rory
DORAL (USA): Anirban Lahiri staggered to a disappointing seven-over 79 on a windy day as he dropped sharply from a possible top-10 finish to tied-28th at the World Golf Championships.
Lahiri, starting the day at fiveunder and in tied-seventh place, slipped to tied 28th at two-over. He was done in by a five-hole stretch from third to seventh holes, when he bogeyed all five of them, finding either rough or one of the bunkers.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old Adam Scott, continued his blistering run, as he added the WGC-Cadillac to make it two wins in two weeks.
Scott shot 69 to finish at 12-under 276 for the week. Scott, who had two double bogeys in first five holes, played his last 13 holes in six-under and overtook Rory McIlroy and the rest for a second WGC title in his career.
Bubba Watson (68) was second, one shot behind at 11-under, while Danny Willett (69) and McIlroy (74) were tied third at 10-under and Phil Mickelson (70) was fifth at nine-under. SHARAPOVA TO MAKE ‘BIG ANNOUNCEMENT’ LOS ANGELES: For mer tennis world number one Maria Sharapova will be holding a news conference in Los Angeles on Monday to make “a major announcement”, though no other details were given by her manager on Sunday.
Sharapova’s management company, IMG, declined to tell what topic had prompted the news conference but added: “It will be very big news.”
The announcement will come just four days after Sharapova said she was withdrawing from this month’s BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells in California due to a persistent arm injury.
The five-times grand slam champion has been troubled by her left forearm since the start of the year when she pulled out of an Australian Open warm-up tournament in Brisbane.
