Two killed as car overturns after tyre burst

NEW DELHI : Two men were killed after a speeding Wagon R taxi they were travelling in hit a road divider and turned turtle on a road in northwest Delhi’s Mukundpur near Bhalswa Dairy on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the car was speeding when one of its tyres burst. The driver lost control of the car. It first crashed into a road divider and then overturned. The car was badly damaged and the two occupants were stuck inside. They were rushed to a hospital where they were declared brought dead, police said.

The deceased were identified as Rakesh, 23, a resident of Mukundpur and Manoj, 26, from Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh. Manoj was the driver of the cab while Rakesh was his friend who used to do white wash work.

Aslam Khan, deputy commission­er of police (northwest), said the accident took place around 2 pm at Mukundpur Chowk. The car was going towards Bhalswa Dairy. An eyewitness called the police control room and informed about the accident. A police team reached and took the injured men to hospital. “They were taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital but were pronounced dead on admission. A case of rash and negligent driving causing death was registered at the Bhalswa Dairy police station,” said a police officer familiar with the case.

The identity of Manoj was establishe­d with the help of the car’s registrati­on number and the driving licence police found in his possession. Police informed his family and they identified the other man as Rakesh.
