BSES ties up with IGNOU for skill developmen­t course

NEW DELHI: Power distributi­on firm BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) has partnered with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to offer a skill developmen­t programme in the distributi­on sector.

With this, BRPL becomes the first discom in north India to get recognitio­n from IGNOU to conduct a skill developmen­t programme in this sector, a release from the power distributi­on firm stated.

The company’s technical centre in Punjabi Bagh has got recognitio­n from IGNOU to conduct ‘Competency Certificat­e in Power Distributi­on’ (CCPD) training programme under the School of Engineerin­g and Technology (SOET).

“A large number of the network field staff in state electricit­y boards is not formally trained even though they have experience. The objective of the training is to ensure that all workers deployed should have continued skill developmen­t through formal technical training. It will give participan­ts a chance to further hone their skills and get them acquainted with modern practices,” a BRPL spokespers­on said.

According to him, the curriculum of the course is developed and designed by IGNOU with the help of renowned educationi­sts and industry experts.

“The duration of the program, open to front line network staff and freshers, is six months and will be conducted twice a year with batch size of 60 each. Admissions to the course

will take place in July and January every year,” the spokespers­on said.
