Everything came to a standstill at Khan compound in Old Palasia area of the city where Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s extended family lives, no sooner the decision of the lower court in Mumbai granting five-year imprisonment to Bollywood star was flashed on television sets. Khan’s paternal and maternal families reside in the compound.

Avoiding the media as soon as the decision came, the entire family remained confined inside the house to avoid media frenzy as a large number of people gathered outside to see their reaction.

Preferring to walk away with a ‘no comments’ status when the media tried to approach most of his relatives, Khan’s first cousin Mateen, said, “There is nothing much to speak. It is a bad time for the family. We just have to accept the fate which Allah brings to us. It is a decision by the court so we have to respect it. However, we pray to the almighty that whatever is best for him happens.”

Mateen vacated his house early in the morning to avoid the media and preferred to stay in his garage. “I had a talk with Salman a few days back. He told me that this time it is going to be very difficult dealing with the case. He had sensed it back then that a bad decision will come. But then we all believe in the power of the almighty so we cannot alter his decisions,” said Mateen, as his phone kept buzzing.

Chetan Barot, who claimed to be a close childhood friend of the actor, said, “We are shocked. It is difficult to express the emotions and thoughts which I feel right now. The only relief is the twoday interim bail which he has been awarded. I just wish him a better verdict and decision when they appeal in a higher court.”
