Cityscape to get an arty touch in hybrid format

The city is all set to get into an arty mood as galleries have joined hands to participate in the upcoming Delhi Art Week (DAW). In its second edition, DAW returns in a hybrid avatar, and is being organised in a location-based format across Delhi, including areas such as the India Gate, Defence Colony, Greater Kailash and Vasant Vihar.

It features art programmes from 37 galleries, four art institutions and two museums. “This edition takes into account the reality of a pandemic world and the monumental shifts that have taken place in the global arts business – that physical events must be complemented by an online presence. So, for this edition, works will also be showcased on the global arts platform, Artsy,” says Reena Lath, director, Akar Prakar, and co-organiser of the event, which starts on August 24.

Some of the participating galleries include Dhoomimal Art Centre, Lalit Kala Akademi and National Gallery of Modern Art. “We are pleased to support this event, which brings together the art community on an inclusive platform. We are delighted that an exhibition of Anupam Sud’s practice will mark the opening,” says Roobina Karode, director and chief curator, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. At Ojas Art Gallery, a solo show by artist Bhajju Shyam will enthral the viewers. “The works in this exhibition are very different from anything I have done till now,” shares Shyam, adding, “I never set out to be an artist. I’d help my mother paint on the walls, as per the Gond tradition. Little did I know that my chacha Jangarh Singh Shyam’s influence on me would lead to me becoming an artist.”
