3 GIRLS ESCAPE FROM CENTRE IN KAUSHAMBI, TRACED IN PRAYAGRAJ
PRAYAGRAJ: Three teenage girls who were rescued and provided shelter at Sakhi One Stop Centre in Manjhanpur area of Kaushambi escaped after scaling the boundary wall of the premises on Thursday night.
Officials panicked after the girls were found missing on Friday morning. Several police teams were roped in to trace the girls who were later apprehended from Prayagraj in the evening.
Further investigations were being carried out into the incident, police officials said.
The three teenage girls were rescued by police in separate cases of rape and abduction and kept at One Stop Centre at Medical College premises.
Sakhi One Stop Center in each district is run by Ministry of Women and Child Development where women and girls who are subjected to harassment and other similar cases are given shelter.
Police officials said the girls were kept in a room on the second floor of the centre. The door of the room was made of plywood. Investigations revealed that the girls somehow managed to pull up the screws of the door using a spoon and came downstairs.
Despite, high boundaries and wire mesh, the girls scaled the walls and escaped. The centre officials found the girls missing and called the police. The other girls at the centre and staff were questioned in connection with the incident and several teams were constituted to trace them.
Circle officer Abhishek Singh said many teams were formed for recovery of the missing girls. The girls have been traced and brought back. They were being questioned by centre officials to learn about the circumstances under which they attempted to flee. Further action will be taken on the basis of facts following investigations, he added.
