95-yr-old goes to hospital, thieves steal ₹1 lakh, jewellery from house

GURUGRAM: In a span of six hours, a 95-year-old man was taken to a hospital and thieves allegedly stole ₹90,000 in cash, gold and diamond ornaments after breaking into his house in Palam Vihar, police said on Friday.

The man was taken to the hospital by his daughter, Usha Kapoor, 69, on Thursday and she came back to find that the cash and ornaments had been stolen, said Sulender Singh, sub-inspector, who is the investigat­ing officer in the case. An FIR has been registered at Palam Vihar Police Station under section 380 (theft in a building) of the IPC.

“Most of the thefts in the area happen at night and this is a different case. We are looking into whether any gang is behind it,” Singh said. The officer said that there was no CCTV footage of the incident and they are yet to identify the accused.

Around 11.30 am on Thurs- day, Kapoor, a resident of I block in Palam Vihar, had taken her father, a heart patient, to a private hospital, were he was later admitted.

She returned to the house around 5.15 pm to find the locks of the two main doors of the house, an iron door and a wooden door, broken.

She told police that one of the doors of a room was also broken and the thieves had gone through their belongings in the almiras and drawers and it were strewn around in the room. Around ₹90,000, a gold chain of 10 grams, and ring with a diamond was found to be stolen from the room, Kapoor told police.
