JAIPUR: The results of the bypolls for two Lok Sabha seats and one assembly seat in Rajasthan “clearly show the undercurrent”, Congress leader Sachin Pilot said on Thursday, and demanded the resignation of chief minister Vasundhara Raje “on moral grounds”.

Pilot helped his party register emphatic wins in the Ajmer and Alwar parliamentary constituencies and in Mandalgarh assembly seat, wresting them from the BJP in a crucial poll cycle ahead of the assembly elections in the state later this year. “People voted against four years of BJP’S misgovernance and the chief minister should resign on moral grounds,” said Pilot, who is also Rajasthan Congress chief.

Pilot said the people of the state had protected democracy and rejected religious and caste polarisation. “The results clearly show the undercurrent…what people think. Ajmer city, which was

called the BJP fortress, supported the Congress. The change is noticeable. The youth, who have been misguided by the BJP, came with the Congress,” he added.

“In four years of BJP governance, eight assembly and Lok Sabha bypolls have been held. The Congress has won six (four assembly and two Lok Sabha bypolls). This shows that the Congress is people’s party,” he said.

‘COUNTDOWN BEGINS’

Another senior Congress leader, former chief minister Ashok Gehol, tweeted: “The BJP may have formed the government, but its Mission 150 in Gujarat failed....that set the agenda for the entire nation and BJP’S countdown began. The reflection of which can be seen in Rajasthan today, that is the reason for our landslide victory.”
