Will clean Inderpuri drain, civic body tells green tribunal
The North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Tuesday assured the National Green Tribunal that it will desilt an Inderpuri drain, which is in very bad condition and troubling residents.
The counsel representing the civic body said this to a vacation bench of justice Jawad Rahim and expert member Ajay A Deshpande, while hearing a petition filed by Inderpuri resident Bharat Bhushan Uppal.
A bench headed by NGT chairperson justice Swatanter Kumar had earlier issued notices to Delhi government, Delhi Jal Board and North Delhi Municipal Corporation on the matter. The tribunal had criticised the government agencies over an overflowing garbage dumping site and the clogged drain in Inderpuri.
It had also asked the civic body to immediately clean the drain and the dhalao.
“After seeing the original photographs, the court had asked the North Delhi Municipal Corporation to clear the mess and maintain the garbage dumping site in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016,” lawyer for the petitioner Gaurav Bansal said.
The petition highlighted the “pathetic attitude of government officials”, which resulted in the overflowing drain and dhalao. Both spots are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, the petition said.
As per the latest municipal corporation report released on June 12, at least 70 cases of dengue and 135 cases of chikungunya have been reported in the Capital till June 10.
The next date of hearing in the matter is on July 13.
