Spending on employees can maximise your ROI
ASSURED RETURNS Investing in employees can motivate the entire workforce
Employee investment is directly related to business growth. More investment in employees is likely to result in employees working harder. While there cannot be a defined dipstick to gauge the return on employee investment, engaged employees definitely bring about a positive change within an organisation. Companies should, therefore spend on their workforce to get assured returns.
The issue of return on employee investment was deliberated by HR experts at the recently concluded 27th HT Shine HR Conclave, The Gurgaon Chapter.
Rajan Kalia, co-founder, Salto Dee Fe, the moderator for the session, threw discussions open on ways in which ROI on employees can be measured by HR.
“Every business function must be questioned about its return on investment and not just HR. Employee investment is directly related to business growth. Adding manpower leads to revenue generation and its significance cannot be ignored if an organisation is looking at long-term growth,” said Ganesh Dwivedi, senior vice president HR, G4S India.
“There cannot be a defined dipstick to gauge the return on employee investment. Engaged employees bring positive change within a company.Spend on your workforce and you will surely get back returns. As HR professionals, we cannot measure employee investment in terms of money,” added Amitabh Akhauri, senior vice president – HR, Jindal Stainless Ltd.
Tarun Katyal, CHRO, MTS India was of the opinion that, “A little bit of employee investment can go a long way as a motivating factor for the entire workforce. After all, everything boils down to one big thing -‘benefits on efforts’.
Employers should acknowledge the efforts made by their workforce and document the same to attract and retain top talent, Katyal said.
Sabih Kidwai, directorHR, Schneider Electric, concluded the session, saying “I personally believe that ROI on employee investment can be measured but HR often fails to quantify and connect it to the same vocabulary as the business”.
