FARIDKOT : The family of Parvinder Singh Kamboj, an Aboharbased associate professor who died due to negligence of staff at the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital (GGSMCH), Faridkot, in July last year, has sought help from political leaders to raise the issue during the assembly budget session seeking action against the erring officials.

Even as a probe conducted by Faridkot regional transport authority (RTA) secretary Paramdeep Singh Khaira found that the medical staff delayed the treatment by three hours, no action has been taken against those responsible for Kamboj’s death. The 84-page report was submitted to the state medical education and research department in September.

Kamboj’s brother Praveen Dhanju said, “We tried to contact the principal secretary, but got no reply from him. We want justice. We even tried to contact the chief minister through social media, but got no response.”

“I recently met leader of opposition Harpal Singh Cheema and Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar seeking their help for ensuring action against the erring staff. Jakhar, who also belongs to Abohar, assured me that he will take up the matter with the authorities concerned. Cheema also assured to raise the issue during the assembly session,” he added.

Kamboj, 46, who taught at DAV College of Education, Abohar, was admitted to the isolation ward of the hospital on July 23 as a suspected Covid-19 patient, but his samples tested negative a day after his death. “Despite the Abohar civil hospital doctors referring Kamboj when his blood oxygen plunged to 88%, he was not put on oxygen support. The medical staff on duty wasted three hours, demanding the patient’s file and a Covid-19 test report. The patient was not handled properly in the emergency ward,” the RTA secretary’s report says.

Dr Raj Bahadur, vice chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), said the probe report was sent to the principal secretary (medical education and research) DK Tiwari.

Cheema said, “This is unfortunate that the government has not taken any action despite a probe confirming that a person died due to negligence of the hospital staff.”
