₹70 crore worth opium recovered in Alwar raids

ALWAR/JAIPUR: The opium recovered from seven farmlands in villages near Sariska Tiger Reserve on Thursday has been estimated to be worth Rs 70 crore, said police. Police recovered 73,380 kg opium and arrested one person in the incident. Hunt for 10 other accused is on, police added.

Alwar Superinten­dent of Police Paris Desmukh Anil said that since past one year an aggressive compaign is being run by Alwar police against intoxicati­on.

This was the 14th such raid. The raids were conducted in seven patches of the land in Sukola ki Dhani and Savdi ka bas village under Madhogarh panchayat. The SP said that 1,500 to 2,000 square yards farming of opium was being done. One accused Rajmal Meo of Savdi ka bas has been arrested.

SP Desmukh said that after recovery of 73,380 kg opium police stations have been alerted. Half dozen police teams are searching 10 more accused of this raid.

Police are searching farming of opium near mountains and remote areas. Police are gearing up to strengthen its sources so that opium farming can be stopped in a initial stage.

NDER ‘CLEAN SWEEP’, 2 PEDDLERS ARRESTED

As a part if operation ‘Clean Sweep’,the city police commission­er’s special team (CST) arrested two alleged drug peddlers from whom 28 kilograms marijuana was recovered.

Additional commission­er of police Ashok Gupta said that as part of the operation, the CST is tracking the movement of drug peddlers in the city and smuggling of restricted narcotic substance from outside.

The arrested accused has been identified as Mukesh Saini (24) and Babulal Saini (24) and both are natives of Dudu town in Jaipur. “The CST team received and info that a consignmen­t of marijuana is going to peddled from Bharatpur in a hatch back car to Jaipur. Acting on the tip-off a team was rushed to Jaisinghpu­ra area and when the suspected vehicle was checked 28 kg marijuana was recovered and Bababulal was arrested,” said Gupta.

Addition deputy commission­er of police (Addl DCP) Vimal Singh, CST, said that Babulal is carried who bought the marijuana from a peddler in Bharatpur and was going to deliver it to Mukesh, who further supplies marijuana in small packets in outskirts of Jaipur. After which was Mukesh was also arrested.
