Snow predicted in Valley today

Heavy snowfall between January 4 to 6, air, road travel to be affected; officials issue advisory to people

On Monday night, the temperatur­es hovered around -4.2°C in Srinagar and around -18°C in Drass.ahmad said the snowfall in first week of January will slightly increase the night temperatur­e, while there will be a significan­t fall in day temperatur­es.

LIGHT PRECIPITAT­ION PREDICTED FOR TODAY

The weather officials have forecast light rain and snow during the next 24 hours. The Met department officials said there is a likelihood of light rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir which would break the cycle of the ongoing cold wave.

Pahalgam recorded -4.9°C and Gulmarg minus -4.9°C as the minimum temperatur­e on Tuesday.

Leh recorded -14.6°C and Kargil recorded -17.3°C. Katra recorded 7.2°C , Batote 2.1°C, Bannihal 1.7 °C and Bhaderwah 1.2 °C.

SHIMLA TO GET SNOW

In view of a fresh western disturbanc­e, widespread rain and snowfall is forecast in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. Stating this, Met department director Manmohan Singh said that after January 2, another active western disturbanc­e is predicted from January 4 and will cause isolated heavy rain and snowfall in mid and high reaches of the state till January 6.

On Monday, the weather remained partially cloudy, though the IMD had predicted rain and snowfall in the high and mid reaches of the state on New Year.

There was no appreciabl­e change in the minimum temperatur­e, though the maximum temperatur­e increased by 2°C.
