Govt running away from ensuring MSP for all crops: AAP
CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday accused the Capt Amarinder Singh government of running away from enacting its own law guaranteeing the purchase of all crops, including wheat and paddy, at the minimum support price (MSP).
Mann said the three bills passed by the state government in the specially convened Punjab Vidhan Sabha are parallel to the three Central agriculture marketing laws. “These bills are not enough to safeguard the interests of farmers of the state,” he told reporters outside the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. Leader of opposition Harpal Cheema and other party MLAS also joined him after staging a walkout from the House demanding that the state government should enact a new bill for procurement of crops at MSP.
Mann said the AAP had supported the Congress government inside the House for the sake of farmers by rising above politics and accompanied the delegation to Raj Bhawan to meet the governor and submit the bills passed by the state assembly.
“We did that to send a clear message to the Narendra Modi government that the people of Punjab are united against the ( farm) laws,” the Sangrur MP said.
He said the three bills passed by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha were “mere amendments” to negate the three deadly laws enacted by the Centre. “Those in power who are distributing
‘laddu’ by projecting themselves to the benefactors of farmers, citing the passage of the bills as a big achievement of the government, which is a mere wishful thinking with eyes on 2022 elections,” he said.
