Kiran Choudhry accuses BJP govt of neglecting farmers
KARNAL: HARYANA Congress legislature party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry on Sunday accused the BJP government in the state of neglecting the farming community and not taking any step to clear the pending sugarcane payments of farmers by private sugar mills in the state.
“Sugarcane growers have been running from pillar to post for their pending payments for the past four months, but the government is not taking the issue seriously,” Choudhry said while addressing a ‘Parivartan rally’ at Radaur in Yamunanagar district.
“Even the chief minister betrayed farmers after making a promise last month to get their dues cleared in four days. This is for the first time that farmers are not getting the payment of their produce even after four months and they are being forced to hold protests,” she added.
She also slammed the Narendra Modi government at the Centre for the rising fuel and LPG prices. “Agricultural input costs have increased due to rising prices of diesel and pesticides, but the government has turned a blind eye to farmers’ problems,” she said. Choudhry also condemned the government’s decision to denotify the Dadupurnalvi canal instead of paying compensation to the farmers of about 255 villages in the state.
The Congress leader said the illegal mining was going on unabated under the political patronage. The situation has reached a stage that the sand mafia was not even afraid of assaulting the officials of-law-enforcing agencies.
“The people involved in illegal mining even attack government officials and farmers if they try to stop them,” she said.
