HC asks Punjab govt to put waiting list of ETTs on website
Direction given during hearing of plea on two teachers protesting atop a tower in Chandigarh since Nov 3
449 ETT CANDIDATES WERE INCLUDED IN TWO SELECTION LISTS, MADE FOR 4,500 POSTS IN 2015 AND 2,005 POSTS THIS YEAR
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday directed the Punjab government to put the waiting list of qualified elementary trained teachers (ETTs) against vacant posts in various categories on the official website.
The direction was given during the resumed hearing of a petition initiated by high court, concerned over the incident of two ETTs sitting atop a tower in Sector-3 in Chandigarh since November 3.
State’s additional advocate general PPS Thethi told the court that as many as 449 ETT candidates were included in two selection lists, made for 4,500 posts in 2015 and 2,005 posts this year, as they had applied twice. As appointment is to be given to them under either of these lists, 449 posts would fall vacant.
A waiting list of posts that will fall vacant as a consequence of the options given by the candidates has also been drawn up, he added stating that this waiting list would be put on the website.
The court was further told that 852 posts in various reserved categories are yet to be filled due to non-availability of candidates.
As there was a stay on certain categories of posts, an application is being filed for vacation of stay.
The waiting list in respect of these categories will also be prepared and put on the website.
Thethi assured the court that the exercise of giving appointment letters would be hopefully finalised by the next week.
