YAMUNANAGAR: The claims of the Yamunangar district administration that path of the mythical Saraswati river is being dug up as per the revenue records notwithstanding, the officials are finding it difficult to find the river in the revenue records of a village.

Officials in the revenue department told Hindustan Times that a stretch of about 4km in Talakaur village near Mustafabad, now Saraswati Nagar, is missing in the revenue records and the government is reportedly planning to acquire the land to recreate its path.

“Yes, the officials have told us that the river is not there in the revenue records of our village, whereas it exists in the nearby villages,” Talakaur village sarpanch Gulshan Kumar said.

“We will take up this issue with the government and district administration to find out how the stretch of about 4km disappeared from the records of the revenue department,” he said. The Sarpanch, however, raised objections to the proposal to acquire land. “The entire land is owned by farmers and there is no panchayati land. I am not in the village right now but will take up this matter once I am back,” he said.

Talking to Hindustan Times, district development and panchayat officer Gagandeep Singh said, “We came to know that the river is missing in the revenue records at some places but the government will acquire land to recreate the river’s path.”

On how the river is missing in the revenue record, he said, “This needs to be verified. Involvement of officials cannot be ruled out.”

The officials in the irrigation department, who are monitoring the cleaning of the river, said, “As there is a dispute about the existence of the river in the revenue records, that’s why water is being released from Uncha Chandna village.”
