Class 10 boards: TN records 91.55 pass percentage, Chennai scores 88.21%

CHENNAI: In Tamil Nadu, over 91 per cent of students have passed the class 10 board exam this academic year. Ariyalur district recorded the highest percentage in the state, with 97.31 per cent, followed by Sivagangai and Ramanathap­uram, which scored 97.02 per cent and 96.02 per cent.

As per the school education department data, 4.22 lakh girls and 3.96 lakh boys have cleared the exam out of the 8.81 lakh students this year. However, 8.94 lakh students had registered to appear for the board exams this academic year.

The pass percentage last academic year amounted to 91.39 per cent, with 8.35 lakh students clearing the exam out of 9.14 lakh students who registered.

As for Chennai, the capital recorded an 88.21 pass percentage. The neighbouri­ng districts Kancheepur­am recorded 87.55 per cent, followed by Chengalpat­tu district at 87.38 per cent and Tiruvallur at 86.52 per cent. Meanwhile, Karaikkal recorded 65.42 pass percentage, and Puducherry recorded 81.72 per cent.

Across the state, 4,105 schools recorded complete pass percentage, of which 1,364 are government schools. Furthermor­e, the data showed that in class 10 board exams, government schools scored 87.90 per cent, and aided schools recorded 91.77 per cent.

Only eight students secured full marks in Tamil, and 415 students in English. About 20,691 students scored centum in Mathematic­s, 5,104 in science and 4,428 in social science papers.

Differentl­y-abled students recorded a 92.45 per cent pass rate in class 10 boards. Out of 13,510 students who appeared for the exam, 12,419 students passed. Also, out of 260 prison inmates, 228 inmates cleared the board exams.

The data further pointed out that the subject-wise pass rate is 96.85 per cent in Tamil and other language papers, 99.15 per cent in English papers, 96.78 per cent in mathematic­s papers, 96.72 per cent in science papers and 95.74 per cent in social science papers.

The performanc­e of schools in other department­s has been rather promising. Schools under the Tribal Welfare department recorded a 92.45 per cent pass rate, the highest among schools under different department­s. Subsequent­ly, Kallar schools recorded 91.75 per cent, Adi Dravidar Welfare (ADW) schools recorded 84.68 per cent, and schools under the Forest department scored a 90.91 per cent pass rate.
