Complaint before police spoke of threat over money matters
MADURAI: The charred body of Tirunelveli East District Congress Committee president KBK Jayakumar Dhanasingh (60), who was reportedly missing for the past two days, was found in his farm at Karaichithupudur village under Uvari police limits in Tirunelveli district on Saturday.
Police said Jayakumar went missing on Thursday evening when he left the home to meet someone and following a complaint from his son J.Karuthaiah Jefrin, the Uvari police had launched a search operation.
Meanwhile, the fully burnt body of Jayakumar was found in the garbage yard on the farm, located near his house.
The police suspect the hands and legs of Jayakumar were tied with electric cables, as only copper wires around his limbs were found. Superintendent of Police (SP) N Silambarasan and forensic experts inspected the spot.
The police suspect the victim was killed by assailants, who then tried to destroy the evidence by setting the body on fire.
Five special police teams have been formed to probe the murder. Only on April 30 Jayakumar complained with the Tirunelveli SP, claiming a threat to his life over financial transactions and listed the names of Congress leaders including a sitting MLA, and former TNCC president, for issuing death threats to him.
Jayakumar charged Ruby Manoharan, Nanguneri MLA, of making him spend Rs 8 lakh ahead of the LS polls and not returning it. The MLA had promised to favour him with public work contracts and collected almost Rs 70 lakh, he charged.
Jayakumar also levelled accusations against KV Thangkabalu, former TNCC president, saying he made him spend Rs 11 lakh towards poll expenses and asked him to collect Rs 5 lakh from the Nanguneri MLA, who only threatened him.
The complaint further said Jaykar, correspondent of CCM School in Idayankudi owed him Rs 30 lakh on expenses incurred on the school building but refused and threatened him saying TN Assembly Speaker M Appavu has to decide on it.
