CHEATS HELD FOR DUPING IN THE NAME OF CHARITY

Chandrayan­gutta police arrested two persons who allegedly siphoning of funds collected on the pretext of helping a woman suffering from a chronic ailment.

According to police, Salman Khan (29), president of Hyderabad Youth Courage (HYC) NGO, from Humayun Nagar, and his friend Syed Ayub (31), organiser and resident of Borabanda, have been arrested for making emotional videos in the names of victims suffering from health ailments and misappropr­iating the amounts that came in as donations.

Salman along with his friends opened a Facebook page named Hyderabad Youth Courage, and highlighte­d some of the deprived families’ video clippings and appealed to the public to donate for the cause. Recently, the HYC posted a video on their Facebook page, where Salman sought financial assistance for Yasmeen Sultana, who was suffering from a chronic ailment. A bank account number was opened in the name of Asra Begum as displayed on the page, asking for donations on humanitari­an grounds. The police said that several donors came forward with aid. Meanwhile, Yasmeen Sultana passed away while undergoing treatment.

Salman, Ayub, and Asra Begum planned to transfer the amounts into their personal accounts. Of that `15 lakh was transferre­d to Salman and for Ayub, the money was transferre­d into his relative Rashid’s account, while Asra kept the remaining balance with her, police said.

A case was registered against the accused at Chandrayan­gutta police station and the accused were arrested.
