Coronavirus continued its rampage in Telangana on Sunday, with the state government announcing that 62 new victims of the virus were added today to the growing list of existing Covid-19 patients.

The total number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 so far in Telangana on Sunday evening stood at 334, of whom 290 cases are ‘active’, that is, currently in various hospitals and are undergoing treatment. The total of 334 cases includes 11 deaths from the disease and 33 patients who recovered and have been discharged. The rise from Saturday’s total of 272 cases to Sunday’s 334 cases, represents the steepest single-day rise in

Covid-19 cases yet in the state. Hyderabad continued being at the top of all Telangana districts in terms of number of cases. The health department said that Hyderabad had

145 ‘active’ cases as on Sunday. Ten Covid-19 patients from the city have been discharged so far, while more than nearly half the deaths of 11 Covid fatalities in the state are also from the city, taking the total in the city alone to more than 155 as on Sunday.

Within the GHMC limits, which includes Medchal and Ranga Reddy districts, the total cases without fatalities comes to 186, with Medchal having a total of 14 cases and Ranga Reddy having 17 cases so far.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao chaired a high-level review on Covid-19 situation in the state on Sunday, said that Telangana has adequate stocks of personal protection equipment (PPEs), testing kits and other equipment required for now and would procure more to meet any additional demand.

“The medical officers and staff are extending a tremendous service to the state in treating Covid-19 cases. Every effort should be made to protect healthcare officials and workers. The government fully stands by healthcare officials, doctors and staff. The funds being received by CM Relief Fund for fighting Coronavirus should be used for procurement of PPEs, masks, medicines,” Chief Minister Rao instructed officials. He said that every individual with symptoms of the disease is being tested and every contact of each positive case is being identified and placed under quarantine.
