Council grills JNTU on repeat fee

■ TSCHE says varsity shouldn’t levy fee twice for same purpose THIS IS

- DC CORRESPONDENT

After the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) verifies the certificates of students admitted under the management quota, nonresident Indians, lateral entry and sports and minority categories for 2018-19, the exercise is repeated by the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTU-H).

Stating that this was unnecessary, the Telangana Engineering College Managements Association has asked why JNTU was charging `300 per student and repeating a process that the TSCHE had completed a duplication of effort and sheer waste of precious resources — Association member

MPharmacy,

MBA and MCA.

Association member Prof. G.V.K. Reddy said, “The certificates are verified by TSCHE after it collects

Pharm-D, `500 per student. Now JNTUH wants to do the same collecting `300 per student. Why are two bodies doing the same thing?”

He added, “In my opinion, this is a duplication of effort and sheer waste of precious resources. The JNTU circular asks for enclosure of TSCHE ratification and approval. It is like the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. The TSCHE has verified original certificates and that should be the end of it. No one should do it again, whether it’s JNTU, Osmania University or Kakatiya University.”

Asked about the repeat, Dr M. Manzoor Hussain, director, Admissions, JNTU said, “We have finished the certificate verification for candidates who were admitted through online mode for convenor quota. We are now doing certificate verification for the candidates who got admitted through management quota and spot admissions, which is a regular process every year.”

He said that if the TSCHE had verified the certificates, it had done so for everyone at one go and it was different. “We are doing the certificate verification for candidates getting admitted in our varsity and even Osmania University is doing the same.”
