Banners, posters deface Kukatpally

- NAVEENA GHANATE | DC

The trend of putting up banners and posters has been increasing in Kukatpally constituency over the past few weeks defacing the area badly. Instead of being role models, the members of the ruling party are the worst violators when it comes to putting up posters and banners in the area.

Banners displaying local politicians have sprung up in Vivekananda Nagar, KPHB colony, Kukatpally. Local leaders are using the Bonalu celebrations for propaganda on a massive-scale. A plethora of flexis carrying birthday wishes for and photos of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and MAUD Minister K.T. Rama Rao can be seen. Street lights have become flexi holders at the road medians posing a threat to the commuters.

Meanwhile, locals keep objecting to flex banners in the area. They are of the opinion that the civic body drastically failed to control flex boards, banners and cut outs in Kukatpally. Despite directions from the High Court, several political parties had been putting up flexis. A resident, Srinivas Raju said, “Not only are they an eyesore but also the banners with sticks protruding outside pose a threat to twowheelers. A sudden gush of wind would endanger lives of the commuters.”

Earlier, the High Court had instructed political parties not to put up flexis, hoardings and banners at public places. It had also directed the GHMC to ensure that all hoardings, flexis and others were removed and directed the civic body to impose penalties on violators.

Previously a delay in Metro rail services was reported at JNTU Kukatpally when a flexi ad fell on the overhead cables. Another resident Satyanarayana Rao said, “Today posters of Bonalu celebrations have been put up, but in the recent past, we have seen a lot of poster propaganda and new violators are emerging each day in the form of eateries, educational institutions and shopping malls”
