PREZ ASKS IITH TO WRITE SCRIPT OF 21ST CENTURY

This year, 566 students graduated from the campus

Hyderabad: Speaking about the IITH, President Ram Nath Kovind said, “IIT Hyderabad is not envisaged as just an add-on to the ecosystem. Rather, it has to remain relevant to the fourth industrial revolution that will write the script of the 21st Century.”

IIT Hyderabad is not envisaged as just an add-on to the ecosystem. Rather, it needs to be the hub of this ecosystem. It must be the connecting tissue and the catalyst for a greater synergy. This is IIT Hyderabads’ mandate. Our aspiration­s are no longer limited to the heavy industrial base that was created six decades ago. Rather, IIT Hyderabad has to remain relevant to the fourth industrial revolution that will write the script of the 21st century.

The institute has a vibrant research culture involving cutting-edge technologi­es, with over 800 PhD students.

Mr Ibrahim Dalal, B.Tech, secured President of India Gold Medal, Parmish Kaur, M.Sc and Greeshma P M, M.Tech, received the institute's gold medals. K. Sneha Reddy, B. Tech, received Excellence in academics, co-curricular activities.

Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) celebrated its 7th convocatio­n on Sunday with President Ramnath Kovind as Chief Guest and Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan, as Guest of Honour. Other guests presented at the meeting were Mr Mohammad Mahmood Ali, Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana and Mr. Harish Rao, Minister for Irrigation, Marketing & Legislativ­e Affairs of Telangana.

The day of the convocatio­n was also the first day of the institute's second decade.

This year a total of 566 students graduated from the campus with flying colours. Out of these, there are 435 boys and 131 girls.

The institute also has a vibrant research culture involving cutting-edge technologi­es, with over 800 PhD students, out of which 58 received their doctorates during the Convocatio­n 2018.

Four gold medals were given to the students for their academic excellence for the class of 2018. Mr Ibrahim Dalal, B.Tech, secured President of India Gold Medal while Parmish Kaur, M.Sc and Greeshma P M, M.Tech, received the institute's gold medals. K. Sneha Reddy, B. Tech, received Excellence in Academics and co-curricular activities.

Mr Ibrahim Dalal, said, “Faculty members, especially in CSE department and seniors have always been my inspiratio­n. I also had great friends and batch mates who were always so helpful and I learnt a lot from them. Of course, my parents are the reason I am here today. So, I would like to dedicate this medal to all these people.”

Addressing the students, the President said, “There is so much you can do, and so much you can achieve for yourselves, for your families, for society at large, particular­ly for those less fortunate than you. Please dream big and aim high and please take risks. The time to do it is now.”

Speaking about the institute, the President said, “IIT Hyderabad is not envisaged as just an add-on to the ecosystem. Rather, it needs to be the hub of this ecosystem. Presenting the Institute Report, Prof. U.B. Desai, Director, IIT Hyderabad, said, “Though IIT Hyderabad is 10 years old, we have made a mark in education and research. We were also ranked 9th by NIRF.”

Addressing the Convocatio­n, Mr B.V.R Mohan Reddy, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Hyderabad, said, “You are now stepping into the real world that is undergoing an unpreceden­ted change brought about by technology. A change that is fundamenta­lly transformi­ng the way we live, consume, communicat­e and manage, is playing a unique role in powering economic growth and bringing better comforts to mankind.”
