Construct multi-level car parks in PPP mode: S.K. Joshi

-

Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi on Wednesday directed officials to call for expression of interest (EoI) within a month to build multi-level parking complexes in the city in the public private partnership (PPP) mode to resolve parking and traffic issues in the GHMC limits.

Mr Joshi asked officials to conduct an in-depth study by traffic experts on proposals received by the government on construction of parking complexes on government and private land parcels.

He was speaking at a meeting at Secretariat with officials of GHMC and Municipal Administration and Urban Development, finance and law departments.

He added that 42 land parcels belonging to government departments have been identified in various locations in city to build parking complexes. He asked officials to keep in mind the needs of respective departments besides meeting the commercial and parking purposes while submitting proposals to build parking complexes.

The CS suggested that each parking complex should be developed as a unit which should also serve the commercial purpose and the proposals should be submitted package-wise to meet all these needs.

Mr Joshi asked officials to incorporate these suggestions in terms of reference while inviting expressions of interest. GHMC mayor Bonthu Rammohan said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao were keen on transforming Hyderabad as a global city and all departments should work in tandem to overcome traffic and parking problems. He urged officials to consider setting up chain parking facility in plots admeasuring between 500 and 1,000 sq. yards.

Mr Arvind Kumar said the traffic police has conducted a detailed study on traffic scenario in city and the MAUD department will draft parking complex designs as per available space in a particular location.

He cited smart parking facility developed by DLF in Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi and urged officials to examine the facility.

The meeting was also attended by MAUD principal secretary Arvind Kumar, finance principal secretary Shivashankar, Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director N.V.S. Reddy, law secretary Niranjan Rao, Ranga Reddy collector Raghunandan Rao, TSIIC managing director Venkata Narasimha Reddy, marketing director Laxmibhai, TS Sp-
