Ex-judge to check students’ demand

-

The administrators of the University of Hyderabad have requested the Tribal Students’ Forum to withdraw from the agitation over the election of the vicepresident of the Students’ Union.

The University has decided to request a retired judge of the High Court to examine the matter and advise them accordingly.

Election of the vicepresident has been kept on hold by the University owing to allegations that Naresh Lunavath, one of the contestants, has less than 75 per cent attendance than the required.

On Wednesday morning, the students decided to launch a hunger strike demanding that Mr Lunavath should be declared the vice-president of the Students’ Union.

The University warned the students that if they refused to give up their protest, disciplinary action would be initiated against them for launching a strike without providing prior notice to the authorities.

However, students refused to comply and said that they would continue their hunger strike at Velivada until the University declared Mr Lunavath as the vice-president.

The University will hand over all records and documents pertaining to the elections and the report of a recently-committee to the retired judge.

The judge will examine Mr Lunavath’s records and advise the University regarding his candidature.

Keeping the ongoing end-semester examinations in mind, the University administration has appealed to students to withdraw from the agitation and await the judge’s report.
