- U. SUDHAKAR REDDY | DC

Central Crime Station sleuths of Hyderabad police on Tuesday arrested one of the richest politicians of the state — Telugu Desam MLC G. Deepak Reddy — and two others in connection with land scam cases worth hundreds of crores of rupees and involving both government and privately-owned land.

Mr Deepak Reddy was recently elected as MLC from the TD in AP and is the son-in-law of TD MP J.C. Diwakar Reddy.

According to 2012 election affidavit of Mr Deepak Reddy, he owns `6,455 crore worth of properties, with most lands being disputed.

According to CCS DCP Avinash Mohanty, Mr Deepak Reddy, the prime accused, along with the other accused, advocate Sailesh Saxena and one Srinivas, created false identities and tried to grab the land registered in the names of societies in Bhojaguda of Gudimamalkapur and Banjara Hills.

Mr Mohanty said, “Their modus operandi is to create a fictitious person and enter into litigation with the original owners of the land.”

A case has been transferred from Langar Houz police station to CCS in November based on the complaint lodged by one Mustafa Society.

In this case, Mr Deepak Reddy along with Mr Saxena created a fake identify in the name of Iqbal Islam Khan. “In the name of one Khan, a petition was filed in the High Court against Mustafa Society. When we investigated, we realised that Khan doesn’t exist. Mr Deepak Reddy purchased the land from this fictitious Khan. Following the arrest, several other societies in the same area (covering 78 acres) came forward to file similar complaints about the trio.”

Mr Srinivas who was the one to create fake identifies and documents spilled the beans to the cops after differences with the other two arose.

Mr Deepak Reddy had earlier informed the EC that he would file a separate annexure regarding the lands that are not registered but he had entered into via agreements, memorandum of understanding, joint sharing, judgement and decrees from competent courts of law. He is so far said to be into more than 11 civil disputes. Mr Deepak Reddy’s declaration of 2009-10 reveals that he had an annual income of just `3.27 lakh while his wife’s income was `1.98 lakh.
