KCR wants support for farmers

CM asks film personnel to spread word of TS schemes

Chief Minister K. Chandrasek­har Rao on Saturday stressed the need to launch a major people’s movement to herald a golden era for farmers in Telangana state. He said the movement should be on the lines of the ‘savings movement’ launched by Nobel Prize winner Mohammed Yunus in Bangladesh and the ‘panchayat raj movement’ launched by Mr S.K. Dey in India.

The CM wanted the writers, film-makers and poets to make films, video films and pen lyrics to reflect schemes and programmes of the government for the welfare of farmers so that the farmers will not have to worry about their future. He said state government had taken several steps for the welfare of farmers and it will also take many more in future and the onus of implementi­ng these schemes was on farmers associatio­ns.

“The farmer associatio­n will become stepping stones for heralding a golden era for farmers and these associatio­ns should work with sincerity, honesty and commitment. There is a need to create awareness in villages about the programmes launched by the state government for making agricultur­e profitable, instilling confidence among farmers and for strengthen­ing the rural economy. The awareness can be created through songs, films etc,” the CM noted.

Mr Rao had lunch with film directors, poets, writers at Pragathi Bhavan on Saturday. Later, interactin­g with them, the CM discussed at length on the programmes taken up by the government for the developmen­t of various sections in society and the steps initiated by the government towards realising Bangaru Telangana.

Directors, poets, writers of the likes of Goreti Venkanna, Chandra Bose, Ananta Sreeram, Suddhala Ashok Teja, Jayaraj, Shankar, Sagar Chandra, Sankalp Reddy, Prem Annan, Uttej, Srinivas Reddy, Damoder, Siva Nageswara Rao, Paripurnac­hary, Tarun Bhaskar, Laxman, Kandikonda, Vaddepalli Krishna, Surender, Abhinaya Srinivas Kodari Sreenu, Yashpal, Neela Narasimha, Warangal Srinivas have shared their views with the CM.

Sahitya Academy chairman Nandini Siddha Reddy, Samskruthi­ka Sarathi chairman Rasamayi Balkishen, cultural affairs director Mamidi Harikrishn­a and others attended.

The film personalit­ies said that they would write songs, make films, documentar­ies for agricultur­e developmen­t and welfare of farmers in response to the Chief Minister’s call.
