Samsung, it’s horrible

`11,500 for ‘servicing’ a 32,500-worth mobile phone

-

Ihad purchased Samsung Galaxy A7 mobile phone for `32,500 from Reliance Digital shop in March 2016 and opted for an extended warranty of one more year from Bajaj over and above the one year warranty given by Samsung, the manufacturer.

Within seven months, I had to take the phone to Samsung service centre in October 2016 because some of the apps downloaded were not functioning properly. To my surprise, the executive at the service centre told me that the problem was due to “severe impact” on the mobile and the volume pin had become non-functional. He suggested changing the back casing completely that would cost me `3,500. I had to pay that amount because “physical damages” were not covered under warranty. I could not remember any “severe impact” occurring to the mobile because I take utmost care while using it. Moreover, the mobile, from the day I purchased it, has been kept in a good cover case. With no other options left, I paid `3,500 for changing the back cover because the volume pin had a problem.

Now, within three months of the last “servicing,” on January 12, 2017, I found to my dismay that the mobile A7 screen went blank. Though there was the phone ring still to be heard, there was no display and the mobile was

When I took the mobile to the service centre, the executive, without really checking what the “Problem”, has declared it to be a “physical damage.” non-functional. When I took the mobile to the service centre, the executive, without really checking what the “problem” has declared it to be a “physical damage. The top screen got pressed and was touching the display unit.” He could not explain what could have caused this to happen but demanded that I will have to pay `8,000 because, again, “physical damages are not covered under warranty.”

I felt really cheated by the attitude of the concerned individuals. For every problem (that might be a minor one arising due to the delicate design of A7 model), the concerned persons put it as a “physical damage” demanding the customer to pay hefty sums for repair even within the warranty period. I have paid `11,500 for the so called “servicing” for a mobile worth of `32,500 within 10 months of purchase and within the “warranty” period.” Kanchan Roy, Secunderabad, roy.kanchan1954@ gmail.com
