Telcos responsible for payment issues COAI CONCERNED OVER FINE ON TELECOM FIRMS
New Delhi, Oct. 23: Telecom regulator Trai has held that operators would be liable for any non-compliance to rules by third party vendors like websites and apps for issues related to bill payment and recharges.
In its guidelines, Trai said that as third party entities like websites and applications are nonlicensed entities and are appointed by telecom service providers, operators are responsible for ensuring compliance of regulatory norms.
“Since Channel Partner(s) and sub Channel Partner(s) are non-licensed entities and appointed by telecom service providers (TSPs) based on mutually agreed terms and conditions, all responsibilities for ensuring compliance of terms and conditions of the license agreement and other regulatory guidelines shall remain with the TSP,” Trai said.
Currently, there are many applications and New Delhi, Oct. 23: Cellular operators’ association COAI has expressed disappointment over the `3,050 crore penalty recommended by Trai on incumbent operators Airtel, Vodafone and Idea for allegedly denying interconnectivity to newcomer Jio.
But the association — which at one point, had led cellular operators from the front in their battle over call connectivity — said it will not get involved as the issue was a matter involving individual operators. — PTI websites that facilitate recharge and bill payment facilities as channel partner of telcos. — PTI
