STATE TO FUND 150 FOR CIVILS COACHING

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, OCT. 23

Students from weaker sections and minorities, planning to appear for the civil services exams, will be provided free training at reputed coaching centres in Hyderabad and New Delhi for seven to nine months. Those who clear both these stages would also be provided free coaching prior to the personal interview.

With government study circles failing to produce rankholders even after spending crores of rupees every year towards coaching, hostel and mess facilities, the Telangana state government is looking at reputed private coaching centres to help poor students.

The students will also be given a monthly stipend to meet their accommodation and food expenses. The BC and social welfare departments have submitted plans to the government for approval.

BC welfare minister Jogu Ramanna said, “We have collected fee details from reputed coaching centres to provide Civil Services exam coaching. The fee ranges from `80,000 to `1.50 lakh for durations, ranging from seven to nine months. An additional `10,000 is required per month for accommodation and mess expenses."

The Tamil Nadu government has achieved good results with this scheme, with about 20 to 30 students from the weaker sections getting selected for the Civils every year. About 150 students will be selected through an entrance test.
