The state government is all set to constitute “Private Schools Fee Determination Committee” headed by a retired High Court judge to fix fees for private schools in the state offering state syllabus, CBSE, ICSE, or any other board syllabus. The committee will be on the lines of the Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee that decides the fees for professional courses in the state.

The government will come out with an action plan on constituting the fee fixation committee based on the report to be submitted by the officials. The government is also willing to legislate on the issue, if required,” he said.

Earlier attempts of the state government to regulate fees in private schools since 2009 had proved futile, with the school managements obtaining stay orders from courts.

In Tamil Nadu, the committee has been deciding the fee structure schoolwise and district-wise every year after inviting fee proposals with the managements. The managements submit audited financial statements on income and expenditure to enable the committee to fix the fees.
