Power Generation powers way to semi-finals
Central Service, Trisco and Power Generation are through to the semi-final s of the Banks DIH Limited ‘President’s Cup’ InterDepartment Domino Championships following matches Friday at the Thirst Park Sports Club.
Central Service recorded an impressive 80 games to defeat Tropical Mist/Water Plant who ended on 75 games. Berbice brought up the rear with 57 games and was eliminated.
Similarly, Trisco bested Soft Drink Plant and Security Department, ending on 77 games. Soft Drink copped the second spot on 74 games, while Security Department finished on 72.
Meanwhile, Power Generation powered their way into the business end of the event with 76 games, defeating Wholesale Liquor and Maintenance Department, who ended on 74 and 65 games respectively.
Also, Banks-F and PreSellers earned their place in the next round, after ending on 78 games respectively. Traditional giant Vehicle Workshop was booted from the event, after finishing third with 75 games.
The competition continues today at the same venue from 18:00hrs. Soft Drink Plant will oppose Pre-Sellers and Central Service, while Wholesale Liquor battles the duo of Sales Department and Trisco.
In the final clash, Banks-F will match skills with Tropical Mist/Water Plant and Power Generation.
Winner of the tournament will commence five cases of Guinness and a championship trophy. On the other hand, the runnerup will pocket five cases of Banks Beer and the respective accolade. The third place finisher will pocket five cases of Malta and the corresponding trophy. Amelia’s Ward Panthers mauled Topp XX by a 3-0 scoreline, when the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA)/Osmond Cummings U20 Football Championship continued Saturday at the Bayrock Community Centre, Linden.
Kevin Gittens bagged a double in the 45th and 80th minute, while Nathan Kenard found the back of the net in the 28th minute.

MOSCOW, (Reuters) - FIFA President Gianni Infantino said yesterday the globalsoccer governing body would not discuss the possibility of having a 48-team World Cup in Qatar in 2022 at its congress next week, saying it would first discuss the matter with the host country.
“The FIFA administration will discuss with the hosts and then we will see,” Infantino told reporters in Moscow. “For the moment, what there is is a World Cup with 32 teams.”
Infantino, who said it was premature to discuss the issue at the FIFA congress in Moscow on Wednesday, did not give a clear timeline on when a decision would be made. He stressed, however, that a decision should be made before qualification for the tournament, which is likely begin in early 2019.
