‘I know we can step up’

ROOSTER Chicken Fijiana Drua captain Asinate Serevi thanked the touring USA Rhinos for giving them a stern test for their defence of their 2023 Super W title.

Fijiana Drua defeated the Rhinos 38-10 at Prince Charles Park, Nadi on Wednesday.

“I would like to appreciate the Rhinos Women’s Rugby team for coming all the way from the USA to have a game against us,” Serevi said.

“It must have been a long flight for them and I am beyond grateful that they’re able to come out here and give us a tough time before the Brumbies game next week.

“I know that we still have a lot to work on with defence and just connecting as a team.

“What we have started is now getting women in Fiji to take up the sport.”

Serevi said they had been training for the past couple of weeks and bonded well as a team. She said the rugby talent in Fiji was growing.

“We know that we have a couple of new players compared to the players that we had last year,” Serevi said.

“With the new talent that we have, I think it will be different.

“It is just something that everyone needs to look forward to because we have a bunch of new girls that we have from last year. It is a good combination for this upcoming season with the girls that we have.

“There’s no reason for us to lose in the Super W. We need to be more physical as a team and we know that we can be physical. We showed that last year and we know that we have done that in practice in the past couple weeks.

“I know that we can step it up a notch on defense and then we can connect a little more on offense.”

Serevi said called on fans to support the team when they face the Brumbies at Prince Charles Park next wekk Saturday.

“We have two home games,” she said. “We’re defending champions and we have a whole new squad. So just be prepared to watch a whole new Fijiana Drua rugby this season.”

Tickets for the match are on sale at Jack’s of Fiji retail outlets. Grandstand tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children under-12. Embankment tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. The match kicks off at 1pm.
