Cricket works on accrediting officials

CRICKET Fiji CEO Sitiveni Rokoro says they have an operating plan to conduct ICC level one coaching clinics for aspiring coaches.

Rokoro said they had three people accredited this year after an ICC tutor training in Nadi.

“This training was for the all the coaches from the East Asia Pacific region and we had four coaches from Fiji and three of those facilitated this course,” he said.

“They’re all ICC accredited that enable them to facilitate this training. In order for us to accredit this training the participants were from Suva, school teams that were playing in our schools competition from Central School.

“Marist Brothers High School, Suva Grammar School and we had some teachers from primary schools as well.

“We have teachers from Suva Methodist Primary School, Veiuto Primary School, Vunidawa Secondary School, Tailevu North High School.

“Some are team managers as well.

“This is a first training of its kind that we ever facilitated for the past four years.”

He added the reason for having training was to have accredited coaches who could run local competitions.

“We have noticed that we are failing at the international level because we have don’t have the human resource personnel to coach these players from the grassroots level.

“We need to up skill and accredit these local grassroots coaches in order for us to excel at that level, we need to get our house in order at our grassroots level.

“We are trying to up skill our human resources. This includes our coaches, our umpires, and players as well.

“Just to compact that level.”

He adds plans are in place in the future for these tutors to implement what they have leant and move to the other divisions.

“This is the beginning and we are planning to move to the other divisions as well.

“Next year in March we will facilitate a regional coach training at Albert Park. That is an event that we are co-hosting with the Australian Defence Force.

“So we will also have similar training, but for the regional level.

“We will have Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Vanuatu, Cook Islands and New Zealand as well to attend this training.”
