Singh writes boxing record
FIJIAN boxer Nathan Singh scored his first win in Australia on Saturday after decking Robert Lale in their lightweight bout during the SBW Promotions in Sydney.
The Suva-based boxer, who is trained by his veteran Fijian boxing trainer father Gyan, won on technical knockout (TKO).
The victory gave southpaw Singh, 23, his fifth win since turning professional in October 2019 against Ritesh Gaunder, whom he beat on unanimous decision (UD) in Nadi.
Singh now has three TKOs, a KO and a UD win, plus a loss on TKO to Sachin Mudaliar in Nadi in July.
Singh gave his first international opponent Lale, a Melbourne-based New Zealand-born boxer, his fourth consecutive loss since turning professional in March 2022. Lale has a record loss of three TOKs and a UD.
“Blessed be the Lord who strengthens my hands for battle. God is good,” Singh commented on his Facebook account after the win.

Meanwhile rugby great and boxer Sonny Bill Williams lost his unbeaten boxing record after getting knocked out by MMA legend Mark Hunt in the program.
Hunt, 48, dropped Williams in a telling fourth round with the former NRL star being given a standing count before Hunt sealed the deal with a massive right hand.
With SBW barely able to stand, the referee stepped in and waved the fight off.
