Festival to promote arts
THE RARAMA Art Festival aims to promote Fiji contemporary arts, music, dance and locally produced films.
Festival director Jane Ren Seam said the festival would be dedicated to the Fijian community.
“We have an art calendar that covers the art activities and we’ve also extended the art exhibition to the end of October which is great news especially for schools during their breaks – the art exhibitions are public with no age limit,” she said.
She said artists and communities to focus on art and creativity to make arts thrive in Fiji and the Rarama Art Festival could be the perfect platform for promoting this.
Meanwhile, the festival held its film premier followed by a cocktail at the University of the South Pacific ICT Japan Pacific Centre on Friday night.
Ms Seam said the entire festival is about an art exhibition and a film festival which was officially opened on Saturday, October 1.
“The film festival includes a film premier which had taken place on Friday night.
“Last night (Friday) we covered in particular the film arts which compromise of Fijian films all done by Fijians and we had a little panel talk right after.
“We will be organising several film screenings next Thursday and Friday with panel talks as well.”
Ms Jane said the film premier was to feature a short film that has been winning international awards done by film maker Meli Tuqota.
“He made this short film titled ‘Soli Bula’ which is an animated movie, and it drew a lot of international attention and for the first time ever we broadcasted the film last night (Friday) which was followed by a very good talanoa session.”
