Women’s forum to promote participation in decision-making
THE Fiji Young Women’s Forum (FYWF) is ready to work towards advancing the participation of diverse young women in various political spaces to achieve transformative change in their communities.
The FYWF is built on the rich tradition of activism and feminism by Fijian women throughout our national history and is coconvened by the Emerging Leaders Forum Alumni (ELFA), FemLINKpacific and House of Colours (HOC).
ELFA coordinator Nandni Vandhana said they were looking forward to engaging with diverse young women across the country in ensuring that platforms were provided for their voices to be heard.
“After a two-year break, we are excited to continue the work in promoting young women’s meaningful and active participation in all levels of decision-making,” said Vandhana.
Co-conveners had discussed expectations, advocacy priorities and activities in a two-day retreat that resulted in the signing of the terms of reference that would guide engagement and activities planned for the year and the introduction of a new co-convener, House of Colours.
FemLINKpacific’s program associate Maxine Tuwila said they were excited to be working in partnership with other co-conveners.
“This will amplify the voice of young women and ensure that we achieve the 30 per cent minimum target of representation in decision-making spaces,” said Ms Tuwila.
Co-conveners also mapped out a six-month work plan that outlined a series of events and activities aimed to bring together young women from all divisions in the country.
