Company plans to improve efficiency

- By ABISHEK CHAND

A CONSTRUCTION company in Fiji is hoping to reduce the manpower and increase efficiency with the latest edition of Skid-Steer loader.

The Bobcat S590 was handed over by the authorised dealers in Fiji Clyde yesterday which was valued at $130,000.

According to managing director Suman Sekran, of Cope Construction Pte Ltd the new addition would be convenient for the company to use at their project site in Nasinu.

Instead of using all the shovels, wheelbarrows and the manpower this will minimise all those things.

Staya Sekran who is also the managing director said they had five excavators which needed much more room to operate in however for the Bobcat it could be easily used in tight corners.

“We can excavate and do landscaping, even small areas for example to remove excess soil, excess debris and all those things.

“It can do maybe 15 to 20 men’s job in one day, mainly we bought it just because we were working on the Nasinu courthouse and the area besides the building is very confined and the Bobcat can go through.”

Mr Sekran said during the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Winston the company had worked on 45 schools around the country.

Other projects for Cope Construction Pte Ltd include Fiji National University’s new lecture theatre and tutorial room as well as the construction of a state-of-the-art four level building in Nadi which was the site of an old police station.

The national sales manager for Clyde Dipal Bhatt said they had always dealt with Cope Construction in terms of providing generators or water pumps however this was the first acquisition for the category.

He said the Bobcat was also registered with the Land Transport Authority which meant it could be driven on the road.

It was also stated this would reduce the cost of hiring a truck to take the machinery to the construction site.

According to Mr Bhatt Cope Construction was the first company which had acquired the Bobcat.

“So for us it is a very good start, since we had been recently appointed as the authorised dealers of Bobcat.

“It will help us in propagating the product further in the market in future,” he said.
