Local businesses offer assistance
APART from Government’s efforts to assist in the Australian bushfire crisis, small businesses in Fiji have also pitched in to assist through fundraisings.
This week Weta Coffee Fiji and The Merch gave $3000 each from fundraisings towards the Australian Red Cross online page to assist with the effort.
Weta Coffee Fiji director Mue Bentley said they were thrilled with the overwhelming response from their customers during their fundraising which began on Monday last week.
“Our commitment was to donate all our coffee sales from Monday, January 6 to assist with Australia’s firefighting efforts,” she said.
“We sold about 300 coffee during the campaign, our coffee sales came to just over $1700 so we threw in our food sales and topped our donation up to $3000.
“Weta Coffee Fiji decided to direct the funds towards
Australian Red Cross online and transferred a total of $A2000 ($F3000) via their donation web page.
“We were thrilled that another small business owner, Watisoni Nata (Jr) committed another $F3000 from his business, The Merch, to match our donation and this amount, was also transferred to Australian Red Cross.”
Ms Bentley said the initiative was a demonstration of Fiji’s community spirit and giving heart.
Meanwhile, members of the public in Suva have been urged to support the Fiji 4 Australia Fire concert which is scheduled to take place at the Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva next Saturday. It is organised by the Fiji Performing Rights Association and a corporate dinner held at the Holiday Inn on Thursday the same week.
Those wishing to bank their gifts for the two events can do so via Westpac account number 9805084556 specifying narrations as fire dinner or fire concert.
