At the end of the Punjas Battle of the Giants pool matches veteran Nadi defender, Avinesh Suwamy, is the tournament’s top goal scorer. Suwamy’s hat-trick against Lautoka on Sunday night, saw him lead the Golden Boot Award race with four goals. The 34-yearold is playing his first season with Nadi after representing Ba for the past 15 years. He has a chance to increase his goal scoring tally this weekend. The ANZ Bank officer is going to captain Nadi once again on Saturday when they face Suva in the second semifinal of the Battle of the Giants footbal tournament at Churchill Park, Lautoka. The match kicks-off at 4pm.

The 2020 Vodafone Cup rugby league is expected to be tougher as the Kaiviti Silktails players return to their clubs. The competition will start on Saturday when 26 clubs will be playing. There are 10 clubs from the West and 16 clubs in the East- eight each for Nasinu and Suva.

Speaking to SUNsports Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) development officer Joe Dakuitoga said the competition would be tough and exciting to watch.

“It will be tougher compared to previous years,” he said.

“All the clubs are preparing well so this will be a different competition because the players will want to prove themselves and make it to the Kaiviti Silktails squad for next year’s Ron Massey Cup,” he said. Dakuitoga said for the Eastern clubs like Army Bears, Police Sharks, Nadera Panthers and

Nabua Broncos have been preparing well.

“Only premier grade teams will be playing in the competition,” he said.

Dakuitoga said the official launch of the Vodafone Cup is set for today.

He said Silktails head coach Wes Naiqama will be attending the games to work on his selection of the Silktails team.
