50 Prefects Inducted to Lead School
Ba Sangam College headboy,Kevin Naidu and head girl, Mereoni Ciriyawa, were among 50 school prefects inducted at the school yesterday.
The 17-year-old student, who lives near the school, was thankful for the support from his father who raised him single handedly after his mother passed away when he was 10 years old.
“I want to dedicate today’s achievement to my mother who has passed away when I was in Year Seven. It’s still hard now living without her here but I know she would have been proud,” he said.
“I feel grateful for this achievement, my father who couldn’t be here today but he will be happy.”
With able support from the school head girl, Kevin said he would work hard to lead the student body of 320 students by example.
Mereoni of Nabitu, Tokatoka, Tailevu, did not expect to be chosen for the role.
“I want to thank the school and my parents for placing their trust in me to be head girl. I plan to look into students’ behaviour,” she said.
“My family was so happy when they found out I was the head girl, even my grandmother was crying so I hope to do my best.”
Officiating as chief guest the Ba Police Station, officer in charge, Sergeant Adi Krishna, said the inducted prefects needed to uphold their standard of leadership even when not in school.
“Whether or not you are not in uniform, you will be marked by your colleagues for the way you present or behave towards them,” he said.
“You will hear students talk about you or to an extent ridicule you, but bear in mind that if you are implementing something for the betterment of your colleagues then you have the support of your teachers and superiors.”
