- SELITA BOLANAVANUA

Speeding and reckless driving are threatening the people of this country, says Mahendra Reddy.

The Acting Prime Minister said this while opening the Rokosalasei vehicular crossing in Macuata yesterday.

He said the increasing number of road fatalities was worrying the leaders of this nation.

“This should not happen at all on our roads, parents are losing their children. Dreams are shattered by these reckless minorities” he said.

“Reckless and careless drivers need to stop.”

Mr Reddy said it had gone beyond the limit.

He urged road users to drive slowly and safely especially during this festive season.

“We have seen the families suffering from loss of loved ones and we just cannot continue like this, we want people to behave responsibly,” he said.

Meanwhile, the people of Rokosalasei were grateful for the initiative by the Government.

Mr Reddy said it was the Government’s main intention to ensure that no one was left behind.

“This crossing is not simply a link between one side of the creek to the other, but a connection between the community and the rest of the country,” he said.

Talanoa session

More than 40 farmers were gathered at Navudi yesterday for a talanoa session with Mr Reddy. He made assurance that the Government would deal with all the issues that farmers were facing in order to make a change with their livelihood.
