Women in Commerce and Business Progress Towards Visibilty : Ali

Women in the commerce and business world of Fiji are progressin­g at a visibly progressiv­e rate. Women In Business president Nur Bano Ali further added yesterday during the Annual General Meeting and networking night, that the visibility is not an issue but what remains a struggle is the women in leadership in commerce.

Focus on Women in leadership

Ms Ali said: “So we at WIB are continuing our focus on women leadership in business and commerce.

“It is only through leadership by women at the highest levels that we can move faster for women’s progress.

“There has never been a time like now to promote women into higher levels and decision making positions.So we have direct our focus on this and with a lot of vigorous. “WIB remains very focused and committed to pushing for women in the very top executive positions. This is a struggle at the present time.”

Ms Ali said they still hear from various sectors excuses that it is hard to find relevantly qualified women to fill certain positions. “However, in taking heed of that we continue to provide the ups killing so as to boost the confidence in women to take up positions when offered.

“In today’s world having women on a policy and decision making bodies is not an option but it is indeed a requiremen­t.

“These are not the dark ages and we all must recognise this and ensure that this and all of us together must act to enlighten anyone and everyone to recognise this.” Meanwhile, four new board members have been appointed to the WIB board that is Head of Unit, Administra­tion

& Finance, GIZ Project Administra­tion Unit - Pacific Kalpana Lal, lawyer and businesswo­man Janice Nand, Senikai Spas and Essence of Fiji Group managing director Debra Sadranu and ANZ Fiji Finance manager Mareta Fong.

All the new members, Ms Ali said

would add value and make a difference in WIB.

“Our executives continues to lobby at various levels for women’s inclusion, prominence and participat­ion in statutory and corporate boards as directors.”
