Labasa move VPL clash to Savusavu

The Labasa Football Associatio­n has moved the venue of Saturday’s Vodafone Premier League clash against Rewa to Ratu Ganilau Park in Savusavu.

Labasa team manager Nilesh Lal said yesterday the Babasiga Lions are confident of a positive outcome after they had beaten Rewa 1-0 in their earlier encounter.

“Our aim this time is to get three points,” he said.

“We’re expecting a different atmosphere as the team would play in front of Savusavu crowd. We’re hoping that our fans would make it to the game to show their support.

“So far, Labasa have played seven games and we have 11 points in total.”

Lal said all their top players are available for the exception of Ravinesh Karan Singh who copped a double yellow card

and would have to miss out. “Training has been going well although Labasa FA is yet to confirm our new coach.”

Former coach Anand Sami tendered in his resignatio­n after the Vodafone Fiji FACT where they failed to make the semi-finals.

The match kicks-off at 1.30pm. The Vodafone Premiere League resumes this week, after the last game of the first round was played last Sunday. The undefeated Ba football side lead the VPL points table with 19 points and they face Nasinu who are on the fourth spot.

The clash gets underway at 3pm at the Fiji FA Academy ground in Ba.

In other matches on Sunday will see Suva take on Tavua at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori at 3pm.

The Capital City side are on fifth position on the points table while Tavua sit at the 6th spot.

It will Suva’s first outing under wily coach Kamal Swamy.

Labasa who are on third position will host bottom placed Rewa at Ratu Ganilau Park, Savusavu on Saturday. On Friday Nadi who are placed take on second placed Lautoka side at Prince Charles Park in Nadi at 7pm.

Fiji FA competitio­ns manager Amitesh Pal says, the second round would start as scheduled.

“There was a month’s break and the districts knew the second round will commence after the completion of the first round, which actually took place last Sunday,” Pal said.

He added this were the approved fixtures while the next round of fixtures would be decided during the council meeting later this month
