Top Honours for Town Council Float
Miss Labasa Town Council, Pola Lois, was happy when her name was announced the winner for the ‘Best Float’ during the Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North yesterday.
She was among the 12 queen and four king contestants taking part in the float procession, that began from Y-Corner through the main street of Labasa Town to Subrail Park.
Their respective floats depicted the messages they had been advocating during the weeklong festival.
Miss Lois’ float was decorated with fruits and vegetables, showing a figure of men doing weights exercise and placards with drawings of people gardening.
The second place winner was Miss Fiji Sugar Corporation Ateca Ledua and third was Miss Northern Civil Service Meima Maeli. Miss Lois, who also won the Miss Personality on Friday night, said she was forever grateful to her sponsor for the lifetime experience.
“I would like to dedicate this win to all the employees of Labasa Town Council who have helped me during the weeklong festival,” the 24-year-old said.
“This year I started my attachment as a health inspector at Labasa Town Council and the workers have always treated me like family. “I am so happy and thankful to my family and friends for their support.”
Special Administrator of Labasa and Savusavu Town Council Vijay Chand said: “I would like to say thank you very much for the many community projects you have done to beautify Labasa and help improve the lives of many.
“The theme for this year ‘Our Health, Our Future’ is in line with the Government’s initiative and I hope that through the contestants’ advocacy messages the people of the North will join hands to make a difference.”
