The distribution of food rations continues in the province of Ba after the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Josie and Keni earlier this month.

The DISMAC team led by the Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Viam Pillay is currently involved in the distribution of food rations, clearing of roads, farms and homes and is also carrying out further assessments on the ground.

Mr Pillay said the distribution of rations was for those whose homes and farms were damaged by the flood.

“We have been giving rations to people whose houses and farms were affected by flood and this is done following the proper criteria.”

“The team here in Ba is ensuring that relief supplies reach all who have been affected, whether they live in villages or settlement,” said Mr Pillay.

He said while ration distributions were ongoing, survey teams from respective Ministries and Departments were also on the ground carrying out assessments.

“The survey teams are working very closely with the advisory councillors and village headmen so that all homes are surveyed, especially the homes and the farms damaged by the flood.

The Assistant Minister for Agriculture said the team from Ministry of Agriculture is also on the ground clearing debris on farms, homes and roads blocked with logs.

“Apart from that we’re also following up on the situation on water supply, electricity and access to roads and the relevant authorities have been advised to solve the issues,” said Mr Pillay.
